BRUNEI DARUSSALAM CENTRAL BANK AND CYBER SECURITY BRUNEI STRENGTHEN CYBERSECURITY COOPERATION

Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cyber Security Brunei (CSB) to affirm, and formalise, its cooperation in the field of cybersecurity on Thursday, 19 Jamadilawal 1443H corresponding to 23 December 2021M. 

The MoU underscores BDCB and CSB’s commitment in handling cyber-related issues, specifically those relating to Brunei Darussalam’s financial sector, in accordance with the relevant laws, regulations and national policies. 

Under the MoU, both agencies will establish an information sharing mechanism for cyber threats and risks, as well as to streamline cybercrime intelligence exchange and incident reporting procedures. Both agencies also agree to collaborate on cybersecurity education, capacity building, technical cooperation and other relevant cyber security initiatives.

Signing on behalf of BDCB was Dayang Hajah Rokiah binti Haji Badar, Managing Director, while Cyber Security Brunei was represented by their Interim Commissioner, Awang Shamsul Bahri Bin Hj Kamis.

Dayang Hajah Rokiah, in her remarks, expressed that this cooperation is of paramount importance to ensure cyber-resiliency of the nation’s financial sector, given the higher demand and utilisation of digital financial products and services, paired with increasingly common, and sophisticated, cyberattacks.

This sentiment was echoed in CSB’s Interim Commissioner remarks, whereby he expressed his appreciation for BDCB’s commitment, as the country’s central bank which is designated as a Critical Information Infrastructure, towards cybersecurity.

Also in attendance during the virtually-held ceremony were senior management and officers from Ministry of Transport and Info Communication, BDCB and CSB.
