Cyber Security Brunei participates in the ASEAN Cybersecurity Coordinating Committee (ASEAN Cyber-CC) meeting
The Inaugural Meeting of the ASEAN Cybersecurity Coordinating Committee (ASEAN Cyber-CC) took place on 5 November 2020, co-hosted by the ASEAN Secretariat and Lao PDR, as Chair of the ASEAN Digital Senior Officials Meeting (ADGSOM).
The meeting was held online at the Ministry of Transport and Info-communications (MTIC) and Negara Brunei Darussalam was led by Shamsul Bahri Hj Kamis, Interim Commissioner of Cyber Security Brunei (CSB). Also present were officers from Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC), Cyber Security Brunei (CSB) and Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry (AITI).
During the meeting, the representatives of each ASEAN member states, amongst others, exchanged status updates on the national cybersecurity development in their respective countries which included national strategies, governance mechanisms and initiatives. The ASEAN Cyber-CC Work Plan was also discussed on the relevant initiatives and propose crosssectoral activities that the ASEAN Cyber-CC will undertake annually and in a long term.
The establishment of the ASEAN Cybersecurity Coordinating Committee (ASEAN Cyber-CC) was agreed during the 19th ASEAN Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministers Meeting (TELMIN) held in Vientiane, Lao PDR held on 24-25 October 2019. The 4th ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cybersecurity (AMCC) held on 2 October 2019 in Singapore subsequently agreed to recommend the establishment of an ASEAN Cross-Sectoral Coordinating Committee with representatives from relevant sectoral bodies to strengthen cross-sectoral regional coordination on cybersecurity.
The annual meeting will serve to promote cross-sectoral and cross-pillar cooperation among ASEAN sectoral bodies on efforts to strengthen cybersecurity in the region and such a model is hoped to be replicated in Negara Brunei Darussalam.
